Wie fühlen wir uns in einer Welt, die nicht für uns gemacht ist?

ISLANDS widmet sich Erfahrungen der Entfremdung, die Autistische Menschen und Personen mit ADHS täglich erleben. Drei Tänzer:innen suchen nach Möglichkeiten, miteinander und mit den Zuschauer:innen eine Verbindung herzustellen. Sie scheitern dabei an den Erwartungen einer normativen Welt in einer lebensfeindlichen Umgebung. Gleichzeitig laden sie uns ein, Verbundenheit neu zu erleben und die Normativität der Kommunikation zu hinterfragen.
ISLANDS ist die zweite Produktion im Rahmen des vierjährigen Vorhabens “MULTIVERSE | atypische perspektiven”, das sich mit dem Themenkomplex der Neurodiversität beschäftigt.

How do we feel in a world that is not made for us? 

ISLANDS is dedicated to the experiences of alienation that autistic people and individuals with ADHD experience on a daily basis. Three dancers:innen are looking for ways to connect with each other and with the audience:innen. They fail at the expectations of a normative world in an environment hostile to life. At the same time, they invite us to experience connectedness anew and to question the normativity of communication. 
ISLANDS is the second production in the four-year project "MULTIVERSE | atypical perspectives", which deals with the theme of neurodiversity.

„Die Tanzproduktion ISLANDS der compagnie O. ist mehr als eine Aufführung – sie ist ein aktivistisches Statement, das die Grenzen des zeitgenössischen Tanzes aufbricht und ein neues Paradigma für (künstlerische) Zugänglichkeit schafft. ISLANDS wirkt wie eine choreografierte Widerstandsform gegen die alltägliche Gewalt normativer Erwartungen und Barrieren. Als neurodivergente Person fühlte ich mich nicht nur durch das Stück repräsentiert, sondern aufgrund der sorgfältig organisierten Massnahmen zum Abbau von Barrieren tatsächlich gesehen, abgeholt und in meinen Bedürfnissen anerkannt. Die Tanzproduktion schafft einen Raum, der Disability Justice und Inklusion nicht als Afterthought, sondern als zentrales künstlerisches Prinzip versteht. Die Produktion beweist: wenn künstlerische Praxis von und für marginalisierte Communities gestaltet wird, entsteht nicht nur Repräsentation, sondern Emanzipation und echte Inklusion. Für mich steht ISLANDS exemplarisch für das politisch-transformative Potential der Kunst – und zeigt auch auf, dass Verbundenheit erst dort beginnt, wo die Illusion der „Normalität“ endet.“

„The dance production ISLANDS by compagnie O. is more than just a performance - it is an activist statement that breaks down the boundaries of contemporary dance and creates a new paradigm for (artistic) accessibility. ISLANDS acts as a choreographed form of resistance against the everyday violence of normative expectations and barriers. As a neurodivergent person, I felt not only represented by the piece, but actually seen, included and recognised in my needs due to the carefully organised measures to break down barriers. The dance production creates a space that understands disability justice and inclusion not as an afterthought, but as a central artistic principle. The production proves that when artistic practice is created by and for marginalised communities, the result is not just representation, but emancipation and genuine inclusion. For me, ISLANDS exemplifies the political-transformative potential of art - and also shows that solidarity only begins where the illusion of ‘normality’ ends.“
